MacOS Open Beta is Live!

The MacOS open beta is now live! You will need a mac with at least MacOS 14 (Sonoma) and support for Metal 3 (this includes all Apple Silicon Macs, along with most late intel Macs).

Although it isn't required to join the beta, please sign up for beta/launch news below. It makes it a lot easier for us to keep in touch with testers!

Windows Beta ETA

The Windows beta is scheduled to start about a week after our initial (non-beta) launch on MacOS. We are hoping for late November, but it could slip.

There is not a lot of windows-specific work left to do (our codebase is crossplatform, with very little platform specific code), but we need to stay focused on finishing MacOS first.

Other Platforms

We hope to reach beta stage on iPad and high-end Android tablets sometime in Q2 of 2026.

Beta Open Issues

Please take a look at our Compatability page for general information about how Ochre is compatible with Procreate.

Below is a number of issues still being worked on for this beta.

Tilt Angle

There is currently an open bug in Procreate where the Apple Pencil Tilt Graph doesn't work as described in the Procreate handbook, at least for some types of Apple Pencils. We are somewhat unsure of exactly how to be compatible here, so we are holding back support of the tilt angle for now.

However, Azimuth is supported on compatible styluses.

Import of .brushlibrary Format

The new .brushlibrary format for exporting full Procreate Libraries as a single file is not yet supported. For now, you will have to either import single brushes (.brush format) or brushsets (.brushset format).

Support for .brushlibrary import is planned for the next beta release.

Brush/Brushset Export

We are working through the last known compatibility issues with Brushes exported from Ochre Paint. Until then, there is no way to export brushes from within Ochre Paint.

Limited Number of Demo Brushes

Currently only demo brushsets are included in the beta releases. We are holding back the full set of brushes that will be available in the initial launch.

Note however that the initial release will have a very sparse set of brushes. We are targeting around 10 brushes.

Limited Replacment Brush Resources

We are still missing a handful of replacement resources that are needed for the initial launch. See our Compatibility page for information about what will be supported at launch.
